The Mediterranean diet MedDiet is recommended by the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans, yet little is known about the perceived barriers and benefits to the diet in the U. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine MedDiet adherence and perceived knowledge, benefits, and barriers to the MedDiet in the U. A cross-sectional study was conducted on participants in the U. Linear models and multivariable linear regression analysis was used for data analysis. Our results identify key barriers and benefits of the MedDiet in the SB which can inform targeted MedDiet intervention studies. A traditional Mediterranean-based diet contains high intakes of fruit, vegetables, nuts, and whole grain cereals [ 1 ]. Red and processed meats, dairy products, and sweets are limited, while fish and poultry are encouraged in moderation.
Metrics details. Blood lipids are cardiovascular health indicators. Evidence suggests that a Mediterranean diet can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases. However, the association between the Mediterranean diet and blood lipid profiles seems still inconclusive. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the MDS, its different components and blood lipid profiles. A sample of women and men aged 18—75 years was recruited. Three-day diet records were used to calculate the MDS. A multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to investigate the associations between the MDS, its components and blood lipids, adjusted for several confounders.
